Bladen County Schools is providing an important update regarding our Tackle Out Cancer.

When Tackle Out Cancer was initially announced, proceeds from luminary sales were designated to benefit the American Cancer Society. We have since made the decision to direct those proceeds to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding childhood cancer research and supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer.

As a school district, children are at the heart of everything we do, and we felt that supporting an organization focused specifically on childhood cancer was a meaningful extension of that mission.

We recognize that some community members purchased luminaries based on the original information we shared. We are grateful for your understanding and want to be transparent about this change.

Your generosity will continue to support individuals and families affected by cancer, with a specific focus on children and childhood cancer research.

We are also pleased to confirm that West Bladen High School’s Tackle Out Cancer event will take place during the JV football game against Fairmont on Friday, October 9, at 7 p.m. at West Bladen High School.

Those who previously registered to participate as cancer survivors will still be recognized during the event and will receive additional information about attending the game and the recognition.

Luminaries purchased in honor or memory of loved ones will also be part of the evening as we come together to honor, remember, and support those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Tackle Out Cancer and helped make this event a meaningful part of our school community. đź’›
