It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Bladen County Schools Technology Department website.  Our department provides technical support for every school and administrative office in the district.  Our departmental mission is to empower students, teachers, administrators, staff, and the community to become lifelong, independent learners in a 21st century environment through the application and support of technological resources.  

Technology can be viewed and discussed from two perspectives, which includes information technology and instructional technology.  Information technology refers to the "nuts and bolts" of providing resources to our schools and district offices.  These "nuts and bolts" specifically refer to the network infrastructure (i.e. servers, switches, etc.) and the hardware (i.e. computers, iPads, etc.) necessary for connectivity and delivery of the Internet and other resources.  Instructional technology refers to the application of web-based resources and software through interaction with hardware (devices) in the context of a learning environment.  This learning environment is no longer restricted to the four walls of the classroom.  In order for schools and the district overall to be successful, there has to be a balance between both information and instructional technology.  

The use and application of technological resources are a critical component for providing engaging lessons and opportunities for hands-on learning through real-life and virtual experiences.  In years past, the technology skills curriculum was taught and assessed independently of all other subject areas.  With the release of new curriculum standards this past year, it is now an expectation that teachers embed the North Carolina Information Technology Essential Standards in all content areas on a daily basis.  As a department, we are committed to continued research of new and innovative technologies that are supportive of enhanced learning opportunities for our students.
